RAIN WHISPERER

RAIN WHISPERER

By Jude Cipher

In Rain Whisperer, a poem by Jude Cipher, rain becomes more than a force of nature. Moving through darkness, sorrow and heartbreak, the poem eventually finds calm, light and hope after the storm.

Clouds swirling above the ground
Dark, heavy
Flashing and rumbling
Loud and strong

Escorted with a light shower
Drop after another
Each fall from the sky
One, two, three drops
Become a fierce raid of water bullets

A downpour so mighty
It soaks the driest lands
A downpour so immense
It makes the trees bow and break their backs
But why are you so sombre?

Why do you embrace sorrow
When you arrive at a funeral?
Why do you worsen the pain
On a lover’s heartbreak?
How do you blend my tears with your drops
To make such a mournful cocktail?

With every drop on a dark day
And small splash on the gentle puddle
You sink my heart in the deepest remorse
In the coldest of hours
And quietest of thought

But after the pour
The drops fall again
Slower, fewer
At the end of it all
A ray dawns the soaked ground
And the bereaved are ignited
With the spark of hope

Clouds swirling above the ground
White, free
Bright and gentle
Calm and soothing
The clouds, the drops, the downpour
All are the reminiscences of a real life
