Can love ever be traced to a single reason? A smile, a kiss, a brilliant mind or the simple rhythm of someone’s presence may draw us closer, but love often refuses such easy explanations. In Why I Fell in Love With You, Jesse Unoh moves playfully between physical attraction, romance and admiration, searching for the reason behind his devotion before discovering that perhaps there are simply too many reasons to name.
I could name your arrogant boobs as the reason
I willingly walked into your romantic prison.
But I was already a serf in Love’s fiefdom
Before you admitted me into the balmy universe of your bosom.
I could label your delicious spasmodic soundtrack
As the reason I am Cupid’s perennial snack.
But Love’s stars had already struck my eyes
Before you opened to me the portal to paradise.
I could put it down to your heady, wanton kiss…
Sparks flew, nightingales sang, Earth paused on its axis!
But I was an item on Cupid’s menu on which it often dined
Long before you showed me the otherworldliness of your oral wine.
Is it the majesty and might of your beautiful mind,
Or the intoxicating flow of your steps as I walk behind?
Is it your fluency as you take your tongue to a verb,
Or a smile that is dimpled, radiant and simply superb?
Is it the velvet caress of your voice on the ear,
Or your heart on which blooms goodness and all that is dear?
There are far too many reasons for only one man to name,
For there is a lot to love about you, my Eternal Flame.
