Life rarely follows a perfectly straight path. Along the way, people encounter changes, disappointments and unexpected turns. Yet these experiences can also reveal their ability to adapt and continue moving forward.
In Dear Monday, Lorna Bees compares life to a paper clip. Through this simple everyday object, she reflects on resilience, change and the possibility that our imperfections may be evidence of the lives we have lived.
Life is like a paper clip.
Simple in appearance,
Yet endlessly adaptable.
It bends without complaint,
Changes shape without losing its purpose,
And spends its existence
Holding scattered things together.
We, too, are bent by time,
Reshaped by love, loss,
Disappointment and hope.
The twists we acquire are often mistaken for damage,
When perhaps they are evidence of having lived.
A paper clip never asks why it was bent.
It simply becomes what the moment requires.
Maybe wisdom lies not in resisting change,
But in understanding that every curve tells a story.
For what is life,
If not a series of bends teaching us
That purpose survives even when perfection does not?
Yours,
Lorna Bees
