Death may take a person from the physical world, but can it erase what that person built, taught and inspired?
In Death, Be Not Proud, Ama Poetry remembers Mama Margret Bogere through the legacy she left behind. The poem moves from body to spirit and finally to soul, while repeatedly returning to the image of the “ground.” Although death creates physical separation, the speaker suggests that knowledge, creativity and spiritual connection continue beyond it.
The result is both a tribute and a challenge to death itself.
Though her body lies in the ground,
she is the body of the Tororo’s creative foundation above the ground.
Though her spirit left our ground,
she is the spirit of our knowledge on this ground.
Though her soul departed from our ground,
with the Owner of souls, we stay together on one ground.
Death,
Mama Margret Bogere died?

Mama’s physical presence has gone but her legacy and foundation she built in Tororo continue to thrive and inspire us every single day
Thank you, Fasihi magazine for enabling me bid farewell to the Tororo’s legendary, in an honorable way.
