Dear Tuesday

DEAR TUESDAY

By Lorna Bees

Some nights are filled with thoughts too heavy to explain. Sadness settles into the body, and even sleep can feel like an unexpected escape from overwhelming emotions.

In Dear Tuesday, Lorna Bees describes a night of emotional exhaustion through vivid images of tears, pain and despair. The piece captures the physical weight of sorrow and the brief relief that sleep can bring.

I sang to my empty heart
Until rivers of salty tears burst from my eyes,
Draining me into my own sorrow.

My stomach tied itself into knots of pain,
And my head was massaged with thorns of despair.

Misery, misery.

At some point, I must have somehow fallen asleep,
Because I woke up and found myself lying on top of the blanket,
With my body tangled like spaghetti around a fork.

Perhaps sleep was the only mercy
The night had left for me.

Not yours,

Lorna Bees
