2026 is off to a remarkable start for EARLPS. We are delighted to announce a new partnership between the East African Regional Institute of Legal & Policy Studies (EARLPS) and the Uganda Poetry Society (UPS), a collaboration that aims to bring to light the power of policy, education and poetry in shaping a more skilled and inclusive community and region. At the heart of this partnership is a shared belief that education thrives at the intersection of structure and creativity. This partnership aligns with our commitment to enhance regional capacity in various aspects and by embracing arts-based learning, we continue to champion innovative approaches that unlock human potential and foster knowledge growth across the region. For UPS, this collaboration aims at deepening its role as an educative and transformative platform, where poetry serves as a catalyst and a voice for social change. From preserving cultural identity to challenging injustice and inspiring critical thinking, UPS continues to position poetry as both an art form and a tool for education, advocacy and innovation. With that brief background, we are delighted to announce the inaugural Dr. Ivan Edwards Poetry Award 2026, honoring Ugandan-born physician, USAF Lt.
